Cedar Point's Wildcat - In Washington!

October 27 , 2007

IMG_0126Last month I went down to the Puyallup Fair, which apparently is a pretty big deal here in Western Washington.  I wasn't that impressed, but I also had to remember that I've been spoiled for my entire childhood living so close to Cedar Point, the roller coaster capitol of the world, about an hour west of Cleveland.  One of my favorite roller coasters at Cedar Point is the Wildcat, a simple, compact steel roller-coaster with small cars that only seat 4 people apiece.

Well, turns out that they made more than one of them.  Check out the picture.  It's the Wildcat--in Puyallup, Washington.mutton

Outside of this discovery, I was also introduced to a sport that could only the West could love--Mutton Bustin'.  I'm borrowing a picture from elsewhere on the Internet to help give you an idea of what this is.  Basically, they take really young kids (less than 6 years old/60 pounds), put them on the back of a sheep with a helmet on, and let the sheep run.  The competition is basically for how long the poor kid can hold on to the sheep without falling off.  Let's just say that this is nearly impossible--we watched about 30 kids go through this, and I only saw 2 that lasted more than 3 seconds.

Now, these are kindergarten-aged kids.  They have a slight clue what they are doing for sure (I mean, they get to see all of the other kids fall off before them), but they also have unwavering trust in their parents.  Of course, to the parents, the opportunity to get a picture like the one in this post of their kids to show future prom dates and family friends outweighs the fact that the kid could never, ever possibly trust their parents again after an experience like this.

Of course, I was amused and entertained, so it's all good.
